At the Health & Human Services Agency, we work hard to make sure kids are safe, healthy, and happy. As a Child Welfare Advocate, you’ll be helping children and families who may be going through tough times. You’ll make sure kids have the support they need and help families improve their lives. This job is important and rewarding because you can really change a child’s life for the better.
What You’ll Do
As a Child Welfare Advocate, your main job will be to support kids and families who need help. Here’s what you’ll do every day:
- Speak Up for Kids: You will make sure that kids are safe, healthy, and happy. You will help them get the care and attention they need.
- Help Families: You will work with families, give them advice, and help them find resources they might need, like medical care or food.
- Check on Kids: You will check in on kids who need support to make sure they are doing well and getting the help they need.
- Work with Others: You will work with social workers, teachers, doctors, and other helpers to make sure kids are getting the best care.
- Keep Records: You will write reports to keep track of how the kids and families are doing and to share with others who are helping.
- Help in Emergencies: If something bad happens, you might help right away, making sure kids are safe and get help fast.
This is a very important job that helps children stay safe and have a better future!
What We’re Looking For
Here are the skills we need in a Child Welfare Advocate:
Required Skills:
- Good Communication: You need to be able to talk clearly with kids, families, and other people. You should be good at explaining things so everyone can understand.
- Caring: You need to be kind and understanding. It’s important that you really care about helping others, especially children.
- Problem Solver: Sometimes, there are tough problems to fix. You should be able to think of ways to solve these problems.
- Organized: You will be working on many cases, so being organized is very important. You should be able to keep track of all the details.
- Paying Attention to Details: You need to notice important things, like if a child is having trouble or needs something special.
Bonus Skills (Good to Have):
- Speaking Other Languages: If you can speak another language, like Spanish, it will help a lot, because many families speak different languages.
- Experience Helping Kids: If you’ve worked with children or families before, that’s a plus! It will make the job easier for you.
- Know About the Law: If you know anything about family law or rules about kids and families, that’s also helpful.
Education and Experience
To apply for the job, you need:
- Education: You should have finished high school. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or something similar would be great, but it’s not required.
- Experience: We prefer if you have worked with kids or families before, especially if you helped with things like keeping kids safe or supporting families.
