In this role, you will help make our community healthier by planning and running health programs that help people stay safe and well. You will work with other groups and people in the community to make sure these programs reach everyone who needs them. Job Summary
As a Public Health Program Coordinator, your job is to plan, manage, and oversee health programs that help improve the health of people in San Diego County. You will work with many different teams and organizations to make sure health programs are successful and meet the needs of our community. You will also check how well the programs are working and make reports to show progress.
This is a very important role that helps ensure our health programs are safe, effective, and help as many people as possible.
Key Responsibilities
As a Public Health Program Coordinator, you will have many important duties, including:
1. Planning and Running Health Programs
- Plan new health programs that help people stay healthy.
- Work with other health professionals and groups to make sure programs are organized and run well.
- Make sure the programs follow all the rules and regulations.
2. Tracking and Reporting Progress
- Keep track of how well the programs are doing.
- Write reports that show how much progress the program has made and if it is helping people.
- Use information from the programs to make them better.
3. Reaching Out to the Community
- Talk to people in the community to make sure they know about the health programs available to them.
- Work with local groups, schools, and other organizations to spread the word about the programs.
- Set up workshops or events to teach people about health and wellness.
4. Managing Money and Resources
- Help manage the budget for health programs and make sure money is used correctly.
- Look for ways to get more funding for health programs.
- Make sure the resources are used wisely and efficiently.
5. Supporting the Team
- Lead and guide a team of staff who help run the programs.
- Help train and support your team so they can do their best work.
- Make sure everyone works well together and has what they need to succeed.
6. Making Sure Everything Follows the Rules
- Make sure all programs are following the laws and health rules.
- Keep up-to-date with new health laws or changes that could affect the programs.
- Attend meetings with other health leaders to share ideas and learn new things.
Qualifications
Required Skills
To be a good Public Health Program Coordinator, you need to have these skills:
- Good Communication: You must be able to talk to people in a clear way, whether you’re explaining things to the community or writing reports.
- Good Organization: You will need to manage many tasks at once. Being organized will help you keep everything running smoothly.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes things don’t go as planned. You need to think quickly to find solutions.
- Leadership: You will be leading a team, so it’s important to be a good leader and help your team work together.
- Data Skills: You will need to look at data to see how well programs are working and figure out what can be improved.
- Money Management: You will manage budgets, so knowing how to handle money wisely is important.
- Understanding of Different People: San Diego has many different kinds of people. You need to be able to understand and work well with people from all backgrounds.
Preferred Skills
These skills are not required but would be helpful:
- Experience in Public Health: If you have worked in health programs before, it’s a plus!
- Writing Grants: If you have experience asking for money to support health programs, that’s great.
- Knowledge of Local Health Needs: If you understand what health issues affect people in San Diego County, it will help you do your job.
- Speaking Other Languages: If you can speak Spanish or another language, you will be able to help more people.
- Health Education: If you know how to teach people about staying healthy, that’s helpful too.
Education and Experience
To apply for this job, you need:
- Education: You must have a Bachelor’s Degree (a 4-year college degree) in Public Health, Social Work, or something similar. If you have a Master’s Degree, that’s even better!
- Experience: You need at least 2-3 years of experience working in health programs, health education, or something similar.
- Certifications: If you have special health certifications, that’s great, but it’s not required.
Location
This job is based in San Diego County, California. You will work in an office, but you may also travel around the county to meet people or visit health program sites.
