Job Summary
As an Urban Planner, your main job will be to create plans for how land in the city should be used. This includes deciding where to put parks, schools, and houses. You will look at what the community needs and how to make it a better place to live. You will also work with different people to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.
Responsibilities
In your job as an Urban Planner, you will do a variety of important tasks, including:
- Doing Research: You will collect information about the area, like how many people live there and what services they need.
- Making Plans: You will create maps and plans that show where buildings, parks, and roads should go.
- Talking to People: You will meet with community members to hear their ideas and suggestions about city planning.
- Working with Others: You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and health experts to make sure the plans are safe and helpful.
- Following Rules: You will check that all your plans follow the local laws and regulations.
- Checking Progress: You will look at how well the plans are working and if they need changes.
- Writing Reports: You will write reports and give presentations to explain your plans and ideas to the community and local leaders.

- Knowledge of Local Rules: Understanding local zoning laws is a big plus.
Education and Experience
To apply for this job, you need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field. If you have a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, that’s even better!
You should also have at least two years of experience in urban planning or a related area. If you have worked with city officials or community organizations, that will help you a lot!
Location
This job is in Harris County, Houston, Texas. Houston is a large and exciting city with lots of different neighborhoods. You will have a chance to meet many people and work in different areas of the city!
Salary and Benefits
At Public Health Services, we want to make sure you are rewarded for your hard work. The salary for the Urban Planner position will be between $60,000 and $75,000 per year, depending on your experience.
