Job Summary
As a Program Manager, you’ll design and manage health programs for people in the community. You will work with other organizations, keep track of program goals, and make changes to improve each program. You’ll also support the team to make sure programs run smoothly and help as many people as possible.
What You Will Do
Create and Manage Programs
- Plan and start new health programs to help people in the community.
- Work with hospitals and community centers to run programs well.
- Make sure each program is organized and helpful to people.
Work with Teams and Partners
- Meet with staff and partners to discuss program goals and needs.
- Train team members who work in the programs.
- Build strong relationships with community members and leaders to make programs successful.
Track Program Success
- Watch each program to see what is working and what needs fixing.
- Collect information to see how programs are helping people.
- Write reports on how programs are doing.
Help the Community Understand Health
- Share important health information with the community.
- Plan events to teach people about health and wellness.
- Listen to the community and adjust programs to meet their needs.
Skills and Requirements
Required Skills
- Leadership: Be a strong leader to guide your team.
- Communication: Talk clearly and kindly with staff, partners, and the community.
- Organization: Keep track of multiple programs and make sure everything is on schedule.
- Problem-Solving: Find solutions to challenges as they come up.
- Health Knowledge: Understand how health services work.
Preferred Skills
- Community Program Experience: Having experience with health or community programs is helpful.
- Local Knowledge: Knowing about resources in San Diego, like clinics and community centers, is a plus.
- Data Skills: Be able to look at data to see what’s working.
- Bilingual: Speaking more than one language can help you connect with more people.
Education and Experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: 3-5 years of work in health services, community programs, or a similar area.
- Team Experience: Experience leading teams or projects.
- Program Planning: Experience in setting up and running programs.
Location
You’ll work in San Diego County, CA. You’ll have an office but will also spend time in the community. Sometimes, you’ll visit community centers, hospitals, or other places where people need health services. You’ll work with other people in different locations to help programs reach as many people as possible.
