Job Summary
As a Preventive Health Education Specialist, your job will be to help people learn about ways to stay healthy. You will teach people how to prevent health problems before they happen. You will work with schools, families, and local groups to spread the word about healthy habits like eating healthy foods, getting exercise, and taking care of your mental health.
You will also help people understand how to avoid getting sick and teach them about things like getting vaccinations, stopping smoking, and reducing stress. You will create helpful materials like pamphlets, posters, and videos that make it easier for people to understand important health topics.
Your Responsibilities
Here are the main things you will do as a Preventive Health Education Specialist:
- Teach People About Health: You will lead classes and workshops where you talk to people about healthy habits. You might give talks at schools, community centers, or local businesses.
- Make Health Information Easy to Understand: You will create simple health materials like flyers, posters, and videos to help people learn how to stay healthy.
- Work with Other Groups: You will work with doctors, schools, and other community groups to share health tips and programs that can help people live better lives.
- Encourage People to Be Healthy: You will encourage people to eat well, exercise, and get regular check-ups. You’ll also teach them about mental health, like how to manage stress and talk about their feelings.
- Help Track Health Programs: You will help keep track of how well health programs are working. You will look at things like how many people attended workshops and how much they learned.
- Provide Information About Services: If someone needs help, you will make sure they know where to go. This might mean giving them information about local health services or helping them make an appointment with a doctor.

Preferred Skills
- Experience Helping Others: If you have ever taught people or worked in a health-related job, that will help you. But don’t worry if you don’t have experience – we will train you!
- Speaking More Than One Language: If you speak Spanish or another language, it’s a plus because we work with people from many different backgrounds.
- Tech Skills: If you know how to use social media or make videos, that would be helpful for sharing health information.
- Event Planning: If you have ever helped organize a party or event, that skill can be helpful when planning workshops or health fairs.
Education and Experience
- Education: You need a Bachelor’s Degree in health, nutrition, or a related subject. If you don’t have a degree yet, you can still apply, especially if you are willing to learn.
- Experience: It’s good if you have experience working with people, especially in health or education. But even if you don’t have a lot of experience, we still encourage you to apply!
Where You’ll Work
You will work in San Diego County, California. Your job will involve visiting different places in the community, like schools, health centers, and local businesses. Some of your work will be done at the office, and some will be out in the community.
