What the Job Is About
As a Public Health Analyst, you will collect and study health information to help our community. You will work with other smart people, like doctors, health experts, and social workers, to find out what health problems are happening in San Diego. Your job will be to understand the data, write reports, and help make decisions about how to improve the health of everyone in the area.

What You’ll Do
- Look at Health Data: You’ll gather health information from different places, like surveys, reports, and health records. You’ll then look at this data carefully to find patterns and problems.
- Write Reports: After looking at the data, you will write reports that explain what the data shows. These reports will help other people understand the health problems in the community.
- Help with Health Programs: You will help check if health programs are working well. You’ll use the data to suggest changes that can improve these programs.
- Work with Others: You’ll work with different people, including health experts and community leaders, to figure out ways to solve health problems in the county.
- Learn New Things: You will keep learning about new health trends, better ways to collect data, and new ideas to improve health.
- Talk to the Community: You may talk to people in the community to find out what they need to stay healthy.
- Give Presentations: You’ll share what you’ve learned with other people, like government leaders or health workers, to help them make better decisions.

Things You Must Be Good At
- Looking at Data: You need to be good at looking at numbers and finding patterns. This is important to understand what the health problems are.
- Writing Clearly: You need to be able to write reports that explain things in a simple way, so everyone can understand the information.
- Solving Problems: You will face many challenges, so you need to be good at thinking of ways to solve problems.
- Teamwork: You’ll work with lots of different people, so it’s important to be a team player.
- Staying Organized: You need to keep track of many things at once, so being organized is important.
Things That Would Be Helpful
- Experience with Health Programs: If you have worked with health programs before, that would be helpful.
- Tech Skills: Knowing how to use computer programs like Excel, or learning to use tools to analyze data, will make your job easier.
- Understanding the Local Area: It’s a plus if you know about the health needs of San Diego County.
What You Need to Qualify
Education
- You need at least a high school diploma. However, if you have a college degree in health, science, or a related subject, that’s a plus.
Experience
- 2 years of experience in a job that involves looking at data, research, or working with health programs is helpful.
If you have volunteered or interned in a health-related job, that experience also counts!
