Job Summary
As a Mental Health Caseworker, your main job is to help people who are dealing with mental health problems. You will meet with clients and listen to their concerns. You will also help them find services like therapy, housing, or food assistance. Your job is to guide them through their challenges and help them improve their lives.
You will be helping people of all ages and from different backgrounds. This job is important because it helps make sure everyone has the care they need to stay healthy, happy, and safe.
Responsibilities
In this job, you will do a lot of different things, such as:
- Meet with clients: Talk to people who need help and listen to their problems. Understand what they need.
- Create care plans: Work with each person to make a plan that will help them feel better and reach their goals.
- Help clients find services: Guide clients to get the services they need, like mental health support, housing, or financial help.
- Check on progress: Keep track of how clients are doing and adjust the plans if needed.
- Provide support: Be there to talk to clients when they need advice or just someone to listen.
- Work with others: You will work with doctors, therapists, and other helpers to make sure clients get the best care.
- Emergency help: If a client is in a crisis, you will help them get the care they need right away.
- Keep things private: Protect clients’ personal information and keep it private.
Qualifications
To do this job, you need to have some special skills and experience:
Required Skills
You must be able to:
- Listen carefully: Be a good listener and show that you care about people’s feelings.
- Talk clearly: Be able to explain things well, both in person and in writing.
- Solve problems: Find ways to help clients when they have difficult problems.
- Stay organized: Keep track of your work and make sure you don’t miss anything important.
- Work well with others: Be able to work with other people, like doctors, therapists, and social workers.
- Respect privacy: Keep all client information private and follow the rules for confidentiality.
- Use a computer: Know how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft Word and email.
Preferred Skills
It would be helpful if you also have:
- Experience in mental health or social work: If you have worked with people who need help with mental health before, that’s a plus.
- Know the community: If you know where to find resources and help in San Diego County, that will help you do your job better.
- Speak more than one language: If you can speak Spanish or another language, it can help you work with more people.
Education and Experience
- Education: You need at least a high school diploma or something similar. It’s also helpful if you have a Bachelor’s degree in a field like social work or psychology.
- Experience: It’s helpful if you have one year of experience working with people who need help. This could be a job, volunteer work, or even an internship.
If you don’t have all the experience yet, don’t worry! We will train you to be successful in this role.

Salary and Benefits
