Job Summary
As a Health and Wellness Coach, you will help people by teaching them about healthy living. You’ll work with them to set health goals, and you’ll guide and support them as they try to reach those goals. You’ll provide advice about eating well, getting enough exercise, and managing stress.
Your job will be to help people feel better, live healthier, and make better choices every day. You will also encourage people to stick with their health goals, even when it’s hard.
Responsibilities
Here’s what you will do as a Health and Wellness Coach:
- Work One-on-One with Clients: You will meet with people to talk about their health goals and create a plan to help them get healthier.
- Make Health Plans: You will make a health plan for each person based on what they need. This can include tips on healthy eating, exercise, and managing stress.
- Teach and Educate: You will teach people about healthy foods, exercises, and ways to improve their mental health. You might give them helpful handouts, meal ideas, and exercise routines.
- Track Progress: You will check in with your clients to see how they are doing and if they need help staying on track with their goals.
- Motivate People: You will encourage people to keep going, even if things get tough. You’ll help them stay positive and focused on their goals.
- Work with a Team: You will work with doctors, dietitians, and other health experts to make sure your clients get the best care possible.
- Record Client Information: You will write down notes about your clients’ health progress and goals. This helps keep track of their journey.
- Stay Updated: You will continue learning about new health tips and trends to help your clients better.
Qualifications
To be a great Health and Wellness Coach, you should have the following skills:
Required Skills:
- Good Communication: You should be able to explain things in simple, easy-to-understand ways. You also need to listen carefully to what people need.
- Motivation Skills: You need to inspire others to reach their health goals and stay committed to their plans.
- Empathy: You should care about helping people. It’s important to be kind and understanding of others’ struggles.
- Knowledge of Health: You should know a lot about healthy eating, exercising, and staying mentally healthy.
- Organization: You should be able to keep track of each person’s health plan and their progress.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes, people face challenges. You should be good at finding solutions to help them move forward.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in Health Coaching: If you’ve worked in coaching, fitness, or counseling before, it’s a bonus.
- Fitness Certification: It’s helpful if you have a certification in personal training or fitness.
- CPR or First Aid: It’s a plus if you know basic first aid or CPR.
Education and Experience
Education:
- Required: You need at least a high school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: It’s helpful to have a degree or certification in health, fitness, nutrition, or psychology.
Experience:
- Preferred: It’s great if you have 1-2 years of experience working with people to improve their health, fitness, or nutrition. If you don’t have this, we’ll still consider your application.
- Working with Different People: It’s helpful if you’ve worked with a variety of people, especially people from different backgrounds or with different health needs.
Location: County of San Diego, CA

Salary and Benefits
