Job Summary
The Housing Assistance Coordinator is a very important job. You will work with people who need help finding a home. Your job will be to talk to people, figure out what help they need, and guide them through the process of getting that help.
This job is all about helping others! You will make sure that families, seniors, and individuals who are struggling with housing problems get the support they need to find a place to live. You will also work closely with different programs and other organizations to make sure people get the right kind of help.
Responsibilities
As a Housing Assistance Coordinator, you will have many important responsibilities. Here are some of the tasks you will do every day:
- Talking to clients: You will meet with people to listen to their housing needs. You will ask questions to understand what kind of help they need and guide them through the process of applying for housing programs.
- Helping with applications: You will help clients fill out the paperwork needed to apply for housing programs. This could include forms for rental assistance, temporary housing, or other kinds of help.
- Providing support: You will check in with your clients to make sure they are getting the help they need and to see how things are going. You will help them understand the next steps and encourage them along the way.
- Connecting people to resources: You will work with other community groups, housing organizations, and local services to find out what resources are available to help your clients. You will help connect people with the right services, like shelters, rental assistance, and food programs.
- Tracking progress: You will keep records of your clients’ progress. This helps make sure they are getting the right kind of help and that everything is moving forward.
- Being a problem-solver: Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. You will help find solutions to any challenges that come up along the way and make sure people get the help they need to get back on track.

- Organization: You’ll need to stay organized so that you can manage all the paperwork, applications, and tasks that come with the job. Being organized helps you stay on track and helps clients get the help they need.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes, things won’t go as planned. You should be able to find new ways to solve problems and help clients overcome challenges.
- Teamwork: You will work closely with other team members and community partners. Being able to work well with others is key to doing your job well.
Preferred Skills
While these skills are not required, they are helpful:
- Experience in Social Services: If you have worked with people in need or have helped others in the past, that would be a big plus.
- Bilingual: If you speak more than one language, that’s very helpful because you may be able to assist people who speak other languages.
- Knowledge of Local Services: If you know about local housing providers or community services, that would make your job easier when connecting clients to the right resources.
Education and Experience
For this job, we are looking for candidates with the following education and experience:
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. If you have taken college courses in social work, public services, or a related area, that is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, working with people, or in any type of social work is helpful but not required. If you are new to this kind of work, we will provide training to help you succeed.
Location
This job is based in San Diego County, California. You will be working at an office, but you may need to travel to meet clients or visit community partners from time to time.
Salary and Benefits
The Housing Assistance Coordinator job offers a competitive salary, depending on your experience. The salary range is between $40,000 and $55,000 per year.
