Job Summary
As a Health Education Outreach Coordinator, your job will be to help teach people in the community about health. You will go to schools, health events, and other places to share health tips, explain good habits, and answer questions about staying healthy. You will help people understand how to eat better, exercise, and stay safe from diseases. You will be a big help in making sure everyone knows how to take care of their health.
Main Responsibilities
As a Health Education Outreach Coordinator, you will have several important jobs:
1. Teach People About Health
- Create and give talks about staying healthy in schools, at health fairs, and in other places.
- Hand out health materials like flyers, brochures, and booklets that explain how to eat healthy, exercise, and stay safe.
- Lead fun, educational programs about health for kids, families, and adults in the community.
2. Plan Health Programs
- Help plan fun and interesting health programs to teach people new things about being healthy.
- Work with other groups, like schools and local organizations, to make sure more people get the information they need.
3. Build Relationships
- Work with other groups, like doctors, schools, and businesses, to help spread health information to more people.
- Partner with others to organize health events and activities that teach about wellness.
4. Collect Information
- Keep track of how well your programs are working. Ask people what they learned and how they feel about the programs.
- Share information about your programs with your team so everyone can work together to improve.
5. Raise Awareness
- Help tell people about new health programs and important health topics through social media, posters, and other ways.
- Speak to the public about ways to stay healthy and how they can get more help if they need it.
6. Help and Train Others
- Help train volunteers and staff to talk about health and wellness.
- Be there to support anyone who has questions or wants to learn more about staying healthy.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
To do well in this job, you should have these skills:
- Good Communication: You need to be able to talk clearly to groups of people and explain health topics in a simple way.
- Organized: You should be able to keep track of many tasks and make sure everything gets done on time.
- Public Speaking: You need to feel comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading health workshops.
- Problem Solver: You should be able to think of good solutions when problems come up.
- Caring and Patient: You need to be friendly and patient when helping people, especially when talking to people from different backgrounds.
- Team Player: You should enjoy working with others to get the job done.
Preferred Skills:
These skills are nice to have but not required:
- Experience with Health Programs: If you have worked on health programs before, that would be helpful.
- Speaking Another Language: If you speak a second language, like Spanish, that would be very helpful.
- Writing Skills: If you can help write materials like flyers or social media posts, it’s a plus.
- Experience with Social Media: Knowing how to use social media to spread health messages is helpful.
Education and Experience
To apply for this job, you should have:
- Education: You should have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Education, or something similar.
- Experience: You should have worked in a job that involves teaching, health, or helping the community. At least 2 years of experience is ideal.
- Certifications: If you have a certification in health education (like CHES), it’s a plus but not required.
Location
This job is located in San Diego County, California. You will travel around the area to visit schools, health events, and other community places to teach people about health.
Salary and Benefits
