Job Summary
As a Medical Assistant in our Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, you will have an important job. You will help test and educate families about lead exposure. You will work with doctors, nurses, and families to make sure children stay safe from lead. This is a fantastic chance for someone who loves public health and wants to make a real difference.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will do many important tasks to support the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. Here’s what you will be responsible for:
- Health Screenings: You will help test children and families for lead. This means you will check to see if anyone has lead in their blood. You will keep careful notes of the results.
- Education and Outreach: You will talk to families about why lead is dangerous and how to stay safe. You will help them understand what they can do to protect their children.
- Collaboration: You will work with doctors, social workers, and other community helpers to ensure families get the care they need.
- Data Management: You will keep track of all the test results and make sure that everything is recorded correctly. You must follow the rules to keep everyone’s information private.
- Resource Coordination: You will help families find the resources they need, like housing help, health services, and food support.
- Community Events: You will join community events and health fairs to talk about lead poisoning and connect with families.
Qualifications

Required Skills
- Good Communication: You should be able to talk and listen well to different people, especially children and their families.
- Organizational Skills: You need to keep things organized, like managing your time and keeping records.
- Kindness: A caring attitude is important. You should enjoy helping others and making them feel comfortable.
- Team Player: You should like working with other people and being part of a team.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual Abilities: If you speak Spanish or another language, that is a plus! It helps you communicate with more families.
- Knowledge of Public Health: Knowing a little about lead poisoning and health programs can be helpful.
Education and Experience
- Education: You should have a high school diploma or something similar. If you have training as a medical assistant, that’s even better!
- Experience: If you have worked in healthcare or helped families before, that’s great. Experience with children is a big plus!
