We are the Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) in San Diego County, and we’re looking for a Grants and Funding Manager. In this job, you will help find money for important programs that help people. These programs help kids, families, the elderly, and others in need. Job Summary
As the Grants and Funding Manager, your main job will be to find and manage the money needed to run the programs at HHSA. This includes finding grants (money from organizations) and making sure the programs use the money correctly.
You will also work with other people in the agency to make sure everything runs smoothly and everyone has the funds they need. You will help guide your team and make important decisions on how the money should be used. If you like organizing, working with numbers, and helping others, this job is for you!
Responsibilities
As a Grants and Funding Manager, your duties will include:
1. Finding and Managing Grants
- Looking for Money: You will search for grants (money) that can help fund the programs we run at HHSA. This money can come from the government or other organizations.
- Writing Applications: You will write applications to ask for this money. This means explaining why we need the funds and how they will help our programs.
- Tracking the Money: Once we get the money, you will make sure it is spent the right way. You’ll also help report how the money is being used.
2. Budgeting and Financial Oversight
- Managing Budgets: You will keep track of how much money is spent and make sure everything is used wisely. You’ll also work with other teams to plan the budget for each program.
- Helping with Resource Allocation: You’ll help decide which programs get how much money based on their needs.
3. Leading a Team
- Managing a Team: You will lead a team of people who also work on grants. You’ll help them stay on track and make sure they have what they need to succeed.
- Working Together: You will work closely with other departments and people who are running the programs. You will also work with people outside HHSA to get funding.
4. Communicating with Others
- Talking to Funders: You will talk to the people who give us money, such as government agencies and private organizations. You will keep them updated on how the money is being used.
- Sharing Updates: You’ll also talk to your team and other people in the agency about how things are going with the grants.
5. Keeping Everything on Track
- Checking Progress: You’ll keep track of the success of each program and make sure everything is running smoothly. If there are problems, you will work to solve them.
- Making Reports: You will write reports to show how the programs are doing and how the money is being used.
6. Planning for the Future
- Finding New Funding: You will work with others to plan for future funding needs. You will help figure out how to get money for new programs or keep existing ones running.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
To be successful as a Grants and Funding Manager, you need to have these skills:
- Good Communication: You need to be good at talking and writing clearly. You’ll be explaining important ideas to people, so they need to understand you.
- Organized: You must be able to keep track of lots of information, like where the money is coming from and how it is being used.
- Leadership Skills: You should be good at leading and helping a team. You will need to make sure your team is doing their job well.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and you’ll need to come up with solutions to fix problems.
- Attention to Detail: You need to pay attention to small details, especially when it comes to money and paperwork.
Preferred Skills:
These skills are good but not required for the job:
- Experience with Government Grants: If you’ve worked with government funding before, that’s a plus!
- Experience with Nonprofits: If you’ve worked with organizations that help people, that’s also helpful.
- Money Management: Knowing how to manage budgets and track spending will be very helpful.
- Experience with Technology: If you know how to use computer programs for managing money, that’s a bonus!
Education and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree: You need to have a degree from a college or university. It could be in a subject like business, public administration, finance, or something similar.
Experience:
- At Least 5 Years of Experience: You should have worked for at least five years in jobs that involve managing grants or money, or in a related field.
- Supervisory Experience: You also need at least 2 years of experience managing or leading a team.
