Job Summary
As an Epidemiology Investigator – Tuberculosis, your job is to find and track cases of TB in Harris County. You will work with doctors and nurses to collect information about TB cases, check on patients, and keep careful records. You’ll also talk with people in the community about how they can stay safe from TB. You will be part of a team that works together to stop the spread of this disease.
What You Will Do on the Job
In this role, you will have many important tasks to do every day. Here’s a list of the most important parts of the job:
1. Find and Track TB Cases
- Look into TB cases by interviewing patients to learn more about their health and any places where they may have spread the illness.
- Keep track of each patient’s progress and make sure they get the treatment they need.
- Work with healthcare providers like doctors and nurses to manage patient care.
2. Fieldwork and Community Visits
- Visit different places in the community to collect health information, check for signs of TB, and see if others might be at risk.
- Teach people about how they can stay safe from TB and understand what it is.
- Talk with people in high-risk areas to give them the resources they need to stay healthy.
- Make regular visits to clinics and hospitals to check on how well the program is working.
3. Keep Records and Analyze Data
- Record information about each TB case carefully to make sure it’s accurate and up-to-date.
- Look at data to spot any patterns or signs of outbreaks so the team can act quickly.
- Share your findings with health officials and the public health team to help them understand the current situation with TB in Harris County.
4. Work with Health Officials
- Meet and work with other health teams and departments to make sure everyone is up-to-date on the latest TB information.
- Attend meetings with public health leaders and share your findings to help plan TB prevention.
- Make sure all patient information is kept private and only shared with approved health workers.

- Data Skills: You know how to keep records, look at data, and make sense of it.
Preferred Skills
- Multilingual: It helps if you can speak more than one language, like Spanish, to talk with more people in the community.
- Knowledge About TB: Understanding how TB spreads, its symptoms, and ways to prevent it is useful.
- Experience in Community Health: Having worked in health programs that serve the community is a plus.
Education and Experience Needed
- Degree in Public Health or Similar Field: Having a degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a similar field is preferred.
- Public Health Experience: Experience with contagious diseases or in public health work is helpful.
- Epidemiology Training: Having training or certification in epidemiology (the study of diseases) is good, but not required.
Location
This job is located in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You will work in different parts of the county and sometimes meet with health officials.
