As an Elderly Care Resource Specialist, you will help older adults find the care and services they need to stay healthy and happy. You’ll help them connect with doctors, home care, food programs, and other services. If you love helping people and making a difference, this job is for you!

Job Summary

The Elderly Care Resource Specialist is here to help older adults find the support they need. You will help seniors get access to things like health care, food, transportation, and more. You will talk to seniors, their families, and caregivers to make sure they know about all the services that can help them. Your job is to guide and support them as they get the care they need.

You will work with many people and community groups to help seniors stay safe, healthy, and independent. The work you do will be very important in improving the lives of the elderly people you help.

Responsibilities

As an Elderly Care Resource Specialist, here are some of the things you will do every day:

• Help Seniors Find Services: You will talk to older adults and figure out what help they need. Then, you will find the right programs or services that can help them. For example, you might help them find a doctor, food delivery, or a way to get to their appointments.
• Give Information: You will explain to seniors and their families about different services they can use. You’ll tell them about programs like meals on wheels, free health checkups, and more.
• Assist with Forms: You will help seniors fill out paperwork to apply for services. This might include helping them apply for government help, signing up for home care, or getting free transportation.
• Follow Up: After helping seniors, you will check back with them to make sure they are getting the services they need. You will keep track of their progress and see if there is anything else they need help with.
• Advocate for Seniors: You will stand up for seniors to make sure they get the services they deserve. You will speak on their behalf if they have trouble getting help.
• Community Work: You will work with other organizations in the community to learn about new services or programs for seniors. You might attend meetings and tell others about the programs available to elderly people.
• Support Families and Caregivers: You will also help families and caregivers by giving them information about how they can better care for the elderly. You will let them know about services that can support them, too.

Qualifications

To be successful in this job, we are looking for someone who:

Required Skills:

• Good Communication Skills: You must be able to talk clearly with older people and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. You will also need to listen carefully to their needs.
• Kind and Caring: Working with older adults requires patience and kindness. You should be someone who cares about others and wants to help them.
• Organized: You will have many tasks to do at once, so it is important to stay organized and keep track of everything.
• Problem-Solving: Sometimes, you may have to find creative ways to help seniors get the services they need. You should be able to think of different ways to solve problems.
• Understanding of Senior Services: While it is helpful to know about services for seniors, we are also happy to teach you. A general understanding of healthcare and other programs for older adults will be useful.

Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual: If you can speak more than one language, especially Spanish, that’s a big plus! Many of the seniors we help speak different languages.
• Experience with Elderly Care: If you have worked with older people or in social services before, that is great, but it’s not a must.
• Case Management Experience: If you have experience in managing cases for people or helping others find services, that will be helpful.
• Familiarity with Local Resources: If you know about community programs in the San Diego area, that will be helpful for this job.

Education and Experience

• Education: You need to have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent. It’s helpful if you have a degree in social work, healthcare, or a related field, but it is not required.
• Experience: It’s great if you have experience working with seniors or helping people in a social services role, but it’s not a requirement.
• Certifications: If you have any certifications related to social work or elderly care, that’s a bonus!

Location

This job is located in the County of San Diego, CA. You will be helping seniors in the local community, and you may need to travel around the area to meet with clients or attend meetings.
