Job Summary
As a Senior Health Services Specialist, you will support people in San Diego County by giving them health information, advice, and resources. You’ll help people make better choices for their health and connect them to health programs and services. You’ll also work with other health professionals to ensure that our community has the best health care and support available.
This job is best for someone with experience in health services who is good at talking to people and managing different health cases.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
As a Senior Health Services Specialist, your daily tasks will include:
Helping People in the Community
- Provide helpful information and advice to families and individuals.
- Guide people on how to find and use healthcare services.
- Be there to answer questions and offer health tips to make sure people stay safe and healthy.
Educating and Sharing Health Information
- Teach people about health topics like staying fit, eating well, and preventing illness.
- Hold community talks to share health tips and advice.
- Create helpful materials, like pamphlets, to give people easy-to-understand health information.
Managing Health Cases and Offering Support
- Work with people who need extra help with their health.
- Team up with doctors, social workers, and other agencies to support community members.
- Guide people on health plans, treatment options, and wellness programs.
Keeping Records and Sharing Results
- Keep accurate records of the people you help and track their health progress.
- Prepare simple reports on how well health programs are working.
- Watch for health trends in the community so we can improve our services.
Qualifications Needed
To do well as a Senior Health Services Specialist, you’ll need the following:
Required Skills
- Communication: You must be great at talking and listening so you can understand and help people with their health needs.
- Organization: You’ll be working with lots of people, so you need to stay organized and manage your time well.
- Problem-Solving: You’ll need to think of solutions to health-related problems that community members face.
- Empathy: You should care about others and want to help them live healthier lives.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual Skills: If you speak both English and Spanish (or another language spoken in the community), that’s a big plus!
- Comfort with Public Speaking: You should feel comfortable talking in front of groups.
- Knowledge of Local Services: Knowing about healthcare and support resources in San Diego is a plus.
Education and Experience
Here’s what you need to apply:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field. More advanced studies in health or social services are great but not required.
- Experience: You should have at least three years of experience in health or social services. Experience in community-based work is a bonus.
