Job Summary
As a Community Health Worker, you will work with people in the community to help them stay healthy. You’ll give them information, help them find doctors or clinics, and support them in making healthy choices. Your job is to make it easier for people to get the help they need and learn about health.

Some people have a hard time finding health services or knowing what’s best for their health. As a Community Health Worker, you’ll guide and support people, making it easier for them to stay healthy. This work is important because it helps improve the health and happiness of the entire community.
Job Responsibilities
Here are the things you will do as a Community Health Worker:
Main Responsibilities
- Teach People About Health: Explain healthy habits, like eating well, exercising, and taking care of their mental health.
- Connect People to Services: Help people find doctors, clinics, and other health services.
- Schedule Appointments: Assist people in making appointments with doctors or other health professionals.
- Be a Friendly Listener: Offer support and kindness to people who may need someone to talk to.
- Gather Information: Collect information on what health services are needed in the community and share this with our team.
- Join in Community Events: Participate in health fairs or other events to meet and help more people.
- Advocate for the Community: Speak up for people’s needs and help them communicate with health services.

Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who is kind, patient, and enjoys helping others. You don’t need to be an expert, just willing to learn and care for people.
Basic Skills
- Good Communication: Able to talk to people clearly and in a friendly way.
- Caring Attitude: Understand and be kind to people’s feelings and needs.
- Problem-Solving: Able to figure out how to help someone find the right services.
- Organization: Keep track of people’s appointments and information.
- Basic Computer Use: Know how to send emails and use simple programs like Word.
Helpful Skills (But Not Required)
- Healthcare or Social Work Experience: Any previous experience in a similar job is a plus.
- Bilingual: Speaking another language, like Spanish, can help us reach more people.
- Familiar with Local Services: Knowing about health services in Harris County is helpful.
If you don’t have all these skills, that’s okay! We are happy to train the right person.
Education and Experience
- Education: A high school diploma or GED.
- Experience: No experience is needed, but some experience in healthcare or helping others is a plus.
The most important things are a caring attitude and a willingness to learn.
Location
This job is based in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You may need to travel around the county to meet with community members and attend events.
