Job Summary
As a Health and Safety Compliance Officer, your job will be to make sure the workplace is safe. You will check the building, equipment, and how work is done to make sure everything follows health and safety rules. You’ll also work with other staff members to help solve safety problems and make suggestions to improve safety. This is a very important job that helps keep everyone safe at work.
Responsibilities
As a Health and Safety Compliance Officer, your job will include:
- Checking for Safety: You will regularly check the workplace to make sure it is safe for everyone.
- Identifying Hazards: If you find anything that could cause harm or danger, you will help fix it.
- Teaching Safety: You will teach employees how to stay safe at work. This includes training them on what to do in an emergency.
- Making Safety Plans: You will help create plans that keep everyone safe, like emergency plans and rules for using equipment.
- Reporting Safety Problems: If there is an accident or something dangerous, you will write a report and let your bosses know what happened.
- Working with Others: You will work with other people in the company to make sure everyone follows safety rules.
- Staying Updated: You will keep up-to-date on the latest safety rules and laws, and make sure our company follows them.
Qualifications
Required Skills
To do this job well, you need to have these skills:
- Good Attention to Detail: You need to notice small things that could be unsafe or need fixing.
- Problem-Solving Skills: You should be good at figuring out how to solve problems, like what to do if something dangerous happens.
- Communication Skills: You need to explain safety rules clearly to people and be able to report issues when needed.
- Knowledge of Safety Rules: You need to know or be willing to learn about safety rules at work, like how to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Organizational Skills: You need to keep track of reports and documents about safety.
- Leadership Skills: You should be able to teach and guide other people to help them stay safe.
Preferred Skills
These skills are not required but would be helpful:
- Previous Safety Experience: If you have worked in a job where you helped with safety before, that’s a plus!
- Safety Certifications: If you have any certificates that show you know about health and safety, that’s helpful.
- Speaking Other Languages: If you speak Spanish or another language, it could help you talk to more people.
Education and Experience
Education
- Minimum Education: You need at least a high school diploma or the same level of education. However, if you have a degree in something like health, safety, or science, that is a plus.
Experience
- Experience: We prefer if you have at least 2 years of experience working in safety, health, or a similar job. But if you don’t have much experience, you can still apply if you’re willing to learn!
