Job Summary
As a Family Violence Prevention Educator, your main job will be to teach people in your community about family violence, how to stop it, and how to build healthy relationships. You will talk to families, schools, and groups to help them understand what family violence is, how to prevent it, and where to get help if needed. You will also work with other organizations and people to make sure families have all the support they need.
This job is important because it helps keep families safe and teaches people how to treat each other with respect.
Responsibilities
Your job will include many different things, like:
- Teaching people: You will lead workshops and programs to help people learn about family violence. This could mean talking to groups at schools, community centers, or other places.
- Helping families: You will help families who might be going through tough times by connecting them with people and resources that can help, like shelters or counseling services.
- Raising awareness: You will help spread the word about family violence and teach people how they can prevent it in their own homes.
- Creating helpful materials: You will make things like flyers, brochures, and online posts that give important information on how to stop family violence and build healthy relationships.
- Working with others: You will work with other groups and services that help families. This way, families can get the support they need from different places.
- Supporting people in need: If someone is in crisis, you will help them get the help they need right away. You will make sure they know where to go for safety or counseling.
- Making sure programs work: You will keep track of how your programs are doing and find ways to improve them.

Required Skills
- Good Communication: You should be able to explain things clearly so everyone can understand. You will need to listen carefully to people and answer their questions in a kind way.
- Caring and Compassionate: You should be a kind person who cares about helping others. People will trust you, so it’s important that you are supportive and understanding.
- Organized: You will need to plan different activities, meetings, and events. Being able to keep track of your work will help you succeed.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes, things won’t go as planned, and you’ll need to think quickly to fix problems and help people.
- Teamwork: You will work with other people in the community, like schools, counselors, and family services. Being a good team player is important.
Preferred Skills
- Public Speaking: If you feel comfortable talking to groups or leading presentations, that would be a big plus. It’s important to be able to share information with a group in a clear way.
- Bilingual: If you speak more than one language, that would be helpful, especially if you speak Spanish.
- Experience Working with Families: If you have worked with families or helped people in difficult situations before, that’s great! It will help you in this role.
Education and Experience
Education
- Required: You need to have a Bachelor’s degree (4-year college degree) in a field like social work, psychology, or public health. If you have studied family violence or related topics, that’s even better.
- Preferred: A Master’s degree or extra training in family violence prevention would be nice, but it’s not required.
Experience
- Required: You should have 1-2 years of experience working with people or helping families. This could be from past jobs or volunteer work.
- Preferred: If you have worked directly with family violence or domestic violence before, that’s a big plus.
Location
This job is based in the County of San Diego, CA. You will travel to different places in the county to meet with people, teach programs, and help families.
