Job Summary
As a Public Health Nurse at HHSA, your main job will be to keep our community healthy. You’ll meet with people, give them care, teach them how to stay healthy, and help them find the support they need. This job is great for someone who likes to work with people from all walks of life and wants to improve public health.
What You’ll Do
In this job, you’ll have several important duties to help the community:
Helping People Get Care
- Check on people’s health, give treatments, and follow up to see how they’re doing.
- Give vaccines, do health checkups, and offer advice on staying healthy.
- Teach people and their families about taking care of their health, eating well, and dealing with health problems.
Working with the Community
- Visit schools, clinics, and community centers to share health information.
- Talk to groups about how to stay healthy and avoid illness.
- Work with other community groups to reach more people with health programs.
Keeping Track of Health Cases
- Help people who need regular care, like the elderly or those with long-term health issues.
- Work with other health professionals to make sure everyone gets the care they need.
- Connect people with health and social resources in the community.
Collecting Health Data
- Keep records of patient care and health checks.
- Look at the information you collect to see if health programs are working well.
- Share what you find with other health professionals to improve services.
Who Can Apply
We’re looking for someone who has these skills and qualifications:
Required Skills
- Good communication to talk with patients, families, and health partners.
- Kindness and patience to build trust with people from different backgrounds.
- Organization skills to manage patient records and handle multiple cases.
- Basic computer skills for typing up reports and keeping track of data.
Preferred Skills
- Knowing a second language, like Spanish, to better connect with the San Diego community.
- Knowing about the healthcare resources available in San Diego County.
- Ability to look at health data and understand what it means for our programs.
Education and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school.
- Active, valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Experience
- At least 1-2 years working in a public health or community setting.
- Experience in case management or community health programs is a plus.

Job Location
This job is in San Diego County, California. You may need to travel to different places in the county, like schools and community centers, to meet people and provide health services. You will need a driver’s license and reliable transportation.
