Job Summary:
As a Health and Safety Officer, your job is to make sure that everyone in the workplace is safe and healthy. You will check for dangers, make rules to keep people safe, and teach others about safety. Your main goal is to protect workers, visitors, and the public from harm by making sure the workplace follows safety rules.
Key Responsibilities:
Here are the main things you will do in this job:
- Check for Dangers: You will go around the workplace and look for anything that could be dangerous to people’s health and safety. If you find something, you will report it and suggest ways to fix it.
- Create Safety Rules: You will make rules about how to stay safe at work. You’ll also help make sure everyone follows these rules.
- Teach Safety: You will teach workers how to stay safe. This includes showing them how to use safety equipment, how to act in emergencies, and what to do in case of fire or other problems.
- Record Keeping: You will keep track of safety inspections, accidents, and safety training. You will write reports about any safety problems and how they were solved.
- Plan for Emergencies: You will help make sure that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency, like a fire. You will help set up fire drills and other safety drills to practice for emergencies.
- Follow the Law: You will make sure that the workplace follows safety rules set by the government. This includes local, state, and federal safety laws.
Required Skills:
To do well in this job, you will need the following skills:
- Attention to Detail: You need to notice small safety problems and fix them before they become big problems.
- Good Communication: You will need to talk to workers and bosses clearly. You’ll need to explain safety rules and tell others what to do in case of an emergency.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes, you might find a dangerous situation that needs a quick fix. You will need to come up with a good solution fast.
- Understanding Safety Rules: It’s important to know the safety rules and laws that protect people in the workplace. You will need to make sure everyone follows these rules.
- Organization: You will need to keep track of records, reports, and safety inspections. Being organized will help you stay on top of everything.
- Teamwork: You will be working with other people, so you need to be able to work well with a team. Everyone needs to work together to stay safe.
Preferred Skills:
These skills would be helpful, but they are not required:
- First Aid and CPR: If you know how to do first aid or CPR, that would be great. It’s not required, but it’s helpful in an emergency.
- Experience with Safety Equipment: If you know how to use safety equipment like fire extinguishers or first aid kits, that would be a plus.
- Experience in Safety: If you have worked in a job before where you helped with safety or health, that’s a good thing, but it’s not required.
Education and Experience:
- Education: You need at least a high school diploma or the equivalent. It’s even better if you have a college degree in health, safety, or a related field.
- Experience: If you have worked in safety before, that’s great! But if you’re new to the field, don’t worry – we will train you.
Location:
This job is in San Diego County, CA. You will work at different locations around the county, including offices and other public places.
