The Senior Behavioral Health Counselor will help people who have mental health problems or struggle with addiction. You will talk with clients, listen to their problems, and help them find ways to feel better. As a Senior Behavioral Health Counselor, you will have several important responsibilities, including:
You will talk one-on-one with people who need help with their mental health. You will listen to their problems, help them understand what’s going on, and give them advice on how to improve.
Sometimes, you will help groups of people who are going through similar problems. You will help the group talk to each other, share their experiences, and support one another.
You will create a special plan for each client to help them feel better. This plan will include what kind of support they need and how they can work through their challenges.
You will ask questions and do tests to understand how each person is doing. This will help you see if their treatment is working or if it needs to be changed.
You will also help teach and guide other counselors who are newer to the job. You will show them how to help clients, and give them tips on how to be better at their work.
You will work closely with other doctors, nurses, and social workers to make sure your clients get the best care possible. You will all share information to help the client get the right support.
Sometimes, people may be in a crisis or a dangerous situation. You will need to step in and help them feel safe, calm down, and get the right help quickly.
You will keep detailed notes about what happens during therapy sessions and how your clients are improving. This is important for tracking their progress and helping other team members understand the care they are receiving.
You will sometimes teach people in the community about mental health. You will share information to help people understand mental health better and reduce the stigma or fear around it.
