About the Job
The Mental Health Coordinator is a person who helps people get the support and care they need for their mental health. You will work closely with doctors, nurses, and other health workers to make sure people get the right help. This job is perfect for someone who is caring, organized, and enjoys working with others. What You Will Do
As a Mental Health Coordinator, your job will be to help people who need mental health support. Some of the things you will do include:
- Talking to Clients: You will meet with people to find out what kind of help they need for their mental health.
- Helping People Get Help: You will connect people with doctors, therapists, and support groups so they can get the help they need.
- Checking on People: You will follow up with people to see how they are doing and make sure they are getting the right care.
- Keeping Records: You will write down important information about the people you help, so you can keep track of their progress.
- Working with Other Health Workers: You will talk to doctors, nurses, and other health workers to make sure everyone is helping the person in the best way.
- Sharing Information: You will give people information about where they can get more help, and teach them how to take care of their mental health.
- Advocating for People: You will speak up for the people you help and make sure they have access to the care they need.
- Helping in the Community: You may go out into the community to tell people about mental health and how to get help.
Your job will be important because you will help people feel better and get the right support. You will also make sure they understand where they can go for help and how to stay healthy.
What We Are Looking For
Required Skills:
We need someone who has the following skills to do the job well:
- Good Communication Skills: You should be able to talk clearly and kindly to people, both in person and on the phone.
- Good Organization Skills: You will need to keep track of many different things at once, so being organized is important.
- Empathy and Compassion: You should care about people and want to help them feel better.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Sometimes, you will need to think of ways to help people who might be having a hard time.
- Teamwork: You will work with other people, so it’s important to get along well with everyone and help each other.
Preferred Skills:
It’s great if you also have these skills, but they are not required:
- Experience in Mental Health: If you have worked before in mental health or social work, it will help, but it’s not required.
- Speaking More Than One Language: If you can speak other languages (like Spanish), it will be helpful when talking to more people.
- Knowing Local Services: If you know about mental health services in the Houston area, that’s a plus!
Education and Experience
Education:
To apply for this job, you need at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field like Social Work, Nursing, or Psychology. A degree in one of these areas will help you understand the work better.
Experience:
It’s helpful if you have 2 years of experience working in mental health or a similar job, but if you are just starting out and are eager to learn, we will train you.
Location
This job is located in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You will work in the office, but you may also need to visit clients in the community, or attend meetings to help with outreach.
