What Does a Psychiatrist Do?
As a psychiatrist at SDC Psych. Hospital, you will provide direct care to patients with mental health conditions. You will assess their needs, prescribe treatments, and support them throughout their recovery. This role is essential in ensuring patients receive proper psychiatric evaluation, medications, and therapeutic support.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and Diagnose Patients
- Meet with patients to understand their mental and emotional health
- Perform psychiatric evaluations and make accurate diagnoses
- Monitor symptoms and assess patient progress regularly
Develop Treatment Plans
- Create personalized mental health care plans
- Set clear goals with each patient and adjust plans as needed
- Ensure treatment is safe, evidence-based, and aligned with patient needs
Provide Psychiatric Care
- Prescribe medications as appropriate for mental health conditions
- Offer individual and group therapy to help patients manage their emotions
- Educate patients about their diagnoses, treatments, and coping strategies
Collaborate with the Healthcare Team
- Work closely with psychologists, nurses, and social workers
- Attend care meetings to share updates and coordinate patient support

Communicate with Families
- Provide support to families and caregivers
- Help them understand their loved one’s condition and how to assist in recovery
Maintain Medical Records

Required Qualifications

- Team-oriented and committed to collaborative care
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in inpatient or community mental health settings
- Knowledge of therapy techniques, such as CBT or DBT

- Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish, are a plus
