What Does a Licensed Vocational Nurse Do?
A Licensed Vocational Nurse helps care for patients in clinics, homes, and other healthcare settings. As an LVN, you will monitor patient health, administer medication, and assist with treatment plans. You will support doctors and registered nurses (RNs) while giving patients the attention and respect they deserve.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Check vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure
- Monitor patients’ overall condition and report any changes
- Assist with personal care, wound care, and other basic nursing tasks
Medication and Treatments
- Administer prescribed medications accurately
- Provide injections, dressings, and treatments as needed
- Observe for side effects and respond appropriately
Record Keeping
- Document patient information, treatments, and observations in medical records
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate health charts
- Ensure all records meet privacy and safety standards
Team Collaboration
- Work with doctors, RNs, and healthcare staff to follow care plans
- Attend team meetings and share insights on patient progress
- Support the healthcare team by assisting in emergencies and daily routines
Patient Education and Support
- Teach patients and families how to manage health conditions
- Explain how to take medications and follow care instructions
- Offer emotional support and encouragement to patients
