Emergency Preparedness Coordinator

Job Introduction

Do you want to help keep people safe during emergencies? The Health & Human Services Agency is looking for an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator to join our team. In this job, you will make sure that the community is ready for any kind of emergency, like a fire, earthquake, or health crisis. You will help create plans and teach people how to stay safe during these events.

As an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, you will help the community, work with different groups, and make sure everything is in place to help during an emergency. You will be helping make San Diego County safer for everyone!

Job Summary

The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will help create emergency plans for the County of San Diego. You will make sure these plans are up-to-date and work well. You will also help train people and teach them how to stay safe during emergencies. This is a very important job, and you will be helping the community stay prepared for anything that comes their way.

Responsibilities

Here are the things you will do in your job:

• Create Emergency Plans: You will help make clear, easy-to-follow plans for emergencies in San Diego County.
• Teach and Train: You will organize classes to teach people how to stay safe. This includes training staff and emergency workers.
• Work with Others: You will work with police, fire departments, hospitals, and other groups to make sure everyone is ready for emergencies.
• Run Practice Drills: You will help set up practice emergencies, so people know what to do when a real emergency happens.
• Manage Supplies: You will help keep track of all the emergency supplies, like first aid kits and safety tools.
• Look at How Well Plans Work: After each emergency or drill, you will see how well the plan worked and find ways to make it better.
• Tell the Public About Safety: You will make sure the public knows how to stay safe and get ready for emergencies.

Qualifications

To do this job, you need to have some skills and experience:

Required Skills

• Good Communication: You need to be able to explain things clearly to people, both when speaking and writing.
• Good Organizer: You need to be able to keep track of different tasks and make sure everything is done on time.
• Problem Solver: Sometimes, things change in an emergency. You need to be able to think quickly and find solutions.
• Know About Emergency Plans: It’s helpful to know how emergency plans work, how people stay safe, and how to help in a disaster.
• Team Player: You should be good at working with other people and groups to get things done.

Preferred Skills

• Managing Projects: It’s helpful if you know how to plan and lead big projects.
• Using Technology: If you know how to use computers and emergency management software, it will help you in the job.
• Crisis Communication: If you have experience talking to people and the media during an emergency, that would be a big plus.

Education and Experience

• Required Education: You need a degree in emergency management, public health, or a similar subject.
• Required Experience: You should have at least two years of experience working with emergencies or safety plans.
• Preferred Experience: It’s helpful if you’ve worked with government agencies or in large emergency planning jobs before.
