The Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is looking for a new team member to join us as a Social Services Program Evaluator. As a Social Services Program Evaluator, you will help look at how different programs are helping people. You will use information and data to understand what’s working and what needs to be better. Your work will help make sure that programs are doing their best to help the community.

Job Summary

The Social Services Program Evaluator will help the Health & Human Services Agency make sure that the programs they run are working well for the people they serve. You will help collect information and look at the data to see how these programs are doing. After looking at the data, you will share what you find and help suggest ways to make the programs better.

This job is important because it helps the community by making sure that social services programs are helping people in the best way possible. You will be helping improve the lives of many people in San Diego County.

Responsibilities

As a Social Services Program Evaluator, you will have a few main tasks. These tasks are very important to help improve programs that support the community.

1. Looking at Program Results

• You will check how well social services programs are doing by looking at data and information.
• You will look at the results to see if the programs are helping people like they’re supposed to.
• You will report your findings to other people so that they can understand how the programs can be improved.

2. Collecting and Looking at Data

• You will gather data (information) from different programs to understand if they are helping people.
• You will use tools like spreadsheets or special programs to look at numbers and facts and see if the programs are doing well.
• After looking at the data, you will share what you find with other team members and suggest changes if needed.

3. Sharing What You Find

• You will write reports that explain what you have learned from the data.
• You will present your findings to your team and to other people who need to know about how the programs are working.
• You will suggest ideas for improvement, helping the team know what can be changed to make the programs better for the people they serve.

4. Working with Others

• You will work closely with other team members to make sure that your findings are clear and helpful.
• You will also talk with people who run the programs to help them understand your findings and how to improve.
• You will help train others on how to use data to make programs better.

5. Learning and Improving

• You will keep learning about new ways to improve social services and how to look at data to get the best results.
• You will stay up to date on the best ways to improve programs for the community and share those ideas with your team.

Qualifications

To do this job well, you need to have certain skills and experience.

Required Skills

• Good at looking at information: You need to be good at understanding and working with numbers and data.
• Good at talking and writing: You should be able to explain your findings clearly so that others can understand.
• Pay attention to details: You need to make sure all the information is correct and complete.
• Problem-solving: You should be able to find ways to make programs better by looking at the data.
• Good at working with others: You should enjoy working with a team and helping people understand how to make things better.

Preferred Skills

These skills are not required, but they would be helpful:

• Experience using computer programs like Excel or other tools to look at numbers and data.
• Knowledge of social services: It would help if you know about programs that help people, like those that provide food, healthcare, or housing.
• Experience with evaluations: It’s a bonus if you have worked before looking at how well programs work.
• Understanding the local community: If you know about the people and programs in San Diego County, it will help you understand the work better.

Education and Experience

Education

• You need to have a high school diploma at least.
• A college degree in a related field, like social sciences or health, would be helpful.

Experience

• 1-3 years of experience looking at data, working with programs, or doing research is helpful but not required.
• Experience working with community programs or government would be great, but we’re willing to train the right person.

Location

This job is based in San Diego County, CA. The office is part of the Health & Human Services Agency, and you may need to travel around the county from time to time to visit different programs or meet with people.
