Job Summary
As a Health Data Analyst, you will help gather and study health information to find ways to improve the health of people in San Diego. You will look at data from health programs, see where things can improve, and share your ideas with others. Your work will help our community live healthier and have better access to care.
Responsibilities
As a Health Data Analyst, your job will include:
- Collecting Health Data: You will gather important information about health, like how many people are sick or how many people need health services.
- Looking at Data: You will study this information to find patterns or problems. For example, you might notice more people in one area are getting sick from the same illness.
- Helping Health Programs: You will work with doctors, nurses, and other people who work in health to help make programs better.
- Making Reports: You will share what you find with others using easy-to-understand reports.
- Tracking Changes: You will keep track of how things change over time to see if new health programs are working.
- Helping with Research: You will help in research projects that study how to improve public health.
- Making Suggestions: You will offer ideas based on what you find to improve how health services are run.
Qualifications
To do well in this job, you need to be good with numbers and have some knowledge of health and data. Below are the skills and experience you will need:
Required Skills
- Good with Numbers: You should be comfortable with using math and numbers to solve problems.
- Working with Computers: You should know how to use programs like Microsoft Excel or other tools to look at data.
- Clear Communication: You need to explain your findings in simple language so others can understand, even if they don’t work with data.
- Attention to Detail: You should be very careful with your work and make sure the information is correct.
- Team Player: You will work with others, so you need to be able to work well with people.
Preferred Skills
- Health Knowledge: It’s helpful if you know something about health or working in healthcare.
- More Computer Skills: If you know how to use special computer programs for data (like SPSS, R, or Python), that’s a bonus.
- Research Experience: If you’ve helped with research before, that would be great.
- Making Maps: If you know how to use maps to show health data (using tools like GIS), that’s a plus!
Education and Experience
- Education: You need at least a high school diploma. It’s better if you have a college degree in a subject like public health, statistics, or a related field.
- Experience: You should have at least 2 years of experience working with data. If you have experience working in health or public health, that’s even better!

Salary and Benefits
The Health Data Analyst job pays between $60,000 and $85,000 per year depending on your experience. Besides the salary, you will also get some great benefits, such as:
