The Health & Human Services Agency is looking for a Healthcare Access Navigator. In this role, you will help people in San Diego County, CA find the healthcare services they need. Job Summary
As a Healthcare Access Navigator, you will help people get the health services they need. Many people don’t know how to find healthcare, so you will be the person who shows them the way. You will help them learn about different health insurance options and programs that can help them pay for healthcare.
You will work with people who may need help understanding how the healthcare system works. Your job is to make things easier for them by explaining their options and helping them sign up for the right programs.
Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Access Navigator, you will:
Help People Find Healthcare Services
You will explain to people what health insurance is and how they can sign up for it. You will also help them find doctors, clinics, and other healthcare services in their area.
Assist with Applications
Many people need help filling out forms to get health insurance. You will guide them through the process and make sure they complete everything correctly.
Teach the Community
You will talk to community groups and tell them about the healthcare services available. You might give presentations or attend events to make sure people know about the programs that can help them.
Follow Up and Provide Support
Once someone signs up for health insurance or a healthcare program, you will help them keep track of their appointments and benefits. You will make sure they understand what to do next.
Keep Records
You will keep notes about who you help and what services they need. This will help us track how we are helping the community and make sure we are doing a good job.
Work with Others
You will work with other people in your team, healthcare providers, and community organizations to make sure everyone gets the help they need.
Advocate for Clients
Sometimes people face challenges when they try to get healthcare. You will help them solve problems and make sure they get the care they deserve.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
To do this job well, you need to have these skills:
- Good Communication: You should be able to explain things clearly, so people understand their healthcare options.
- Empathy: You need to care about helping people, especially when they are confused or frustrated.
- Attention to Detail: You need to be careful when filling out forms or tracking information.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes things don’t go as planned. You need to think of ways to solve problems and help people move forward.
- Organized: You will work with many people, so it’s important to stay organized and keep track of your work.
- Comfortable with Technology: You will use a computer to record information and help people apply for health programs.
Preferred Skills:
These skills are not required but would be helpful:
- Experience Helping People: If you’ve worked in customer service, social services, or healthcare before, that’s a plus.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Programs: If you know about health programs like Medi-Cal or Covered California, that would be helpful.
- Speaking Another Language: If you speak Spanish or another language, that’s a big advantage.
Education and Experience
Education:
- Minimum Education: You need at least a high school diploma (or the same level of education).
- Preferred Education: Some college classes in health, social work, or a related field would be helpful.
Experience:
- Required Experience: You should have 1-2 years of experience working with people in customer service or community outreach. This could be in any job where you help people, like in a store or an office.
- Preferred Experience: If you have worked with healthcare programs or helped people apply for benefits before, that would be great!
Location
This job is based in San Diego County, CA. You will travel to different places within the county to help people. Travel costs will be covered by the company.
