Job Summary
As a Mosquito Surveillance Technician, you will help monitor mosquitoes in different areas. Your job is important because mosquitoes can carry diseases that can harm people. You will work outside, setting up mosquito traps, collecting samples, and recording data. Your work will help our health experts study and manage mosquito populations to keep our community safe.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mosquito Surveillance Technician, you will:
Check Mosquito Traps
- Set up and check mosquito traps in different areas.
- Visit these traps daily to collect mosquito samples.
- Watch for any changes in mosquito numbers and report them.
Collect and Prepare Mosquito Samples
- Gather mosquitoes from the traps safely and carefully.
- Label and store mosquito samples properly for testing.
- Follow all safety rules to keep yourself and others safe.
Record Important Information
- Write down where you place each trap and the number of mosquitoes collected.
- Enter data into our system to keep a record of mosquito activity.
- Share information with our team to help them understand mosquito trends.
Work With the Public Health Team
- Talk with other team members to share any updates.
- Suggest ideas for new trap locations based on your observations.
- Join team meetings and training to learn more about mosquito control.
Educate the Community
- Answer questions from people in the community about mosquito safety.
- Explain why controlling mosquitoes is important for everyone’s health.
- Share any community feedback with the team.
Qualifications
Here are the skills and qualifications you need for this job:
Required Skills
- Attention to Detail: Be careful when collecting and handling mosquito samples.
- Basic Computer Skills: Know how to use a computer to enter data.
- Organizational Skills: Keep track of traps, samples, and daily tasks.
- Comfortable Working Outdoors: This job involves working outside in different weather.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Field Equipment: Knowing how to use mosquito traps is a bonus.
- Knowledge of Mosquito Safety: Knowing about diseases mosquitoes can carry is helpful.
- Good Communication: Being able to explain your job to others is useful.
Education and Experience
- Education: You need a high school diploma or a GED for this job. Extra classes in science are a plus.
- Experience: No experience in mosquito control is needed. We will train you for the job. If you have worked outside before, that’s a plus.
