As the EMS Coordinator, you will work with doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters, and other emergency workers to make sure people get the help they need when they are hurt or sick. This job is all about helping people in emergencies and making sure our emergency systems work smoothly.

Job Summary
The EMS Coordinator will be in charge of making sure that emergency medical services in San Diego County run smoothly. You will help plan and manage the EMS system so that when someone needs help in an emergency, they get the care they need quickly.
In this role, you will work with a lot of different people, like doctors, paramedics, and hospitals, to make sure everyone is working together to help people. You will also help make rules and training for emergency medical teams, track how well the system is working, and make sure everything follows local laws and health rules.

Responsibilities
As the EMS Coordinator, you will be responsible for many important tasks. Here are some of the things you will do:
1. Oversee the EMS System
- You will help make sure that emergency medical services in San Diego County are working well. This means checking how fast ambulances get to people, how well the teams are working together, and making sure everyone is doing their job.
- You will also work with hospitals, doctors, and paramedics to make sure everyone is prepared to respond when someone calls for help in an emergency.
2. Train EMS Workers
- You will organize and lead training sessions for people working in EMS, like paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). These workers need to know the best ways to help people during emergencies.
- You will also make sure EMS workers learn about new tools and techniques to improve their skills.
3. Collect and Study Data
- You will gather information about how well EMS is working. This might include looking at how long it takes for ambulances to arrive or how many people are getting the help they need.
- You will study this information to figure out if anything needs to be improved and help make EMS services even better.
4. Make Sure Everything Follows the Rules
- You will make sure that EMS services are following the laws and health rules. This includes making sure that ambulances and emergency services are safe and that they have everything they need to help people.
- You will also prepare reports that show how well the EMS system is working and make sure everything is following the rules set by the government.
5. Work with the Community
- You will talk to people in the community to help them understand how EMS works. You will teach people what to do if they or someone else is having an emergency and how to get help fast.
- You will also work with schools, local governments, and other groups to make sure that everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
6. Help During Big Emergencies
- Sometimes, there are big emergencies, like earthquakes or large accidents, where many people need help at the same time. During these times, you will help organize the emergency medical teams to make sure everyone gets the care they need.
Qualifications
Required Skills
To do this job, you will need a few important skills:
- Good Communication Skills: You will need to talk clearly with lots of different people, like doctors, paramedics, and community members.
- Leadership: You will need to be able to help lead teams and make sure everyone is working together to help people in emergencies.
- Problem-Solving: Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. You will need to think fast and find the best solution to help people.
- Organization: You will be juggling many tasks at once, so being organized is important!
- Knowledge of EMS: It’s important to know how emergency medical services work and how to keep them running smoothly.
- Comfort with Computers: You will need to use computers to keep track of data and write reports.
Preferred Skills
In addition to the required skills, it would also be helpful if you have:
- Experience in EMS: If you have worked as an EMT, paramedic, or in any other emergency service job, that would be great!
- Experience Leading Projects: If you’ve helped organize programs or projects before, you would be a good fit for this job.
- Knowledge of Health Rules: Understanding healthcare rules and safety laws would be very helpful.
- Public Speaking Skills: Being able to talk to large groups and teach them about emergency care is important.
- Data Skills: If you know how to look at information and find trends or patterns, that will help you do your job better.
Education and Experience
Education:
- You will need a Bachelor’s degree in a field like Emergency Medical Services, Public Health, or Healthcare Management.
- If you have a Master’s degree, especially in Public Health or Healthcare Administration, that’s even better.
Experience:
- You should have 3-5 years of experience working in emergency services, healthcare, or managing programs.
- If you’ve worked with emergency medical teams or in a hospital, it would be very helpful.
Location
This job is located in San Diego County, California. You will be based at the Health & Human Services Agency office in San Diego, but you may need to travel to different parts of the county to meet with emergency medical teams and other healthcare workers.
Salary and Benefits
