The Health & Human Services Agency is hiring a Senior Veteran Services Representative in San Diego County, California. About the Role
As a Senior Veteran Services Representative, you will guide veterans through the process of applying for healthcare, housing, education, and other benefits. You’ll manage complex cases, lead a team of Veteran Services Representatives, and work with public agencies to ensure every veteran receives the support they deserve.
What You’ll Do
Assist Veterans and Families
- Help veterans apply for benefits such as medical care, education, housing, and disability support
- Explain eligibility requirements and documentation needed
- Follow up on applications and assist with appeals when needed
Handle Complex Cases
- Work with veterans facing serious challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues
- Coordinate with hospitals, legal services, and housing providers
- Create personalized solutions for difficult situations
Lead and Support a Team
- Supervise a team of Veteran Services Representatives
- Review casework and provide guidance and training
- Ensure consistent and accurate delivery of services
Collaborate with Agencies and Organizations
- Communicate with federal and state agencies to keep up with veteran benefits programs
- Build partnerships with local veteran-focused organizations and nonprofits
- Represent the agency at public events and outreach efforts
Educate and Train
- Organize workshops and information sessions for veterans and families
- Train new staff and team members on benefits, processes, and policies

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of veteran benefit programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership and team management experience
- Case management and problem-solving abilities
- Empathy, patience, and respect for diverse backgrounds
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with veterans or in a veterans’ services organization
- Understanding of medical or legal documentation processes
- Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish
- Background in social work, public administration, or counseling
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration, or a related field
- Experience: At least 5 years in social services or veterans’ programs, including team leadership
