Job Summary
As a Medical Assistant (MA), Mobile, you will travel to different places in Harris County to help with health check-ups and support the healthcare team. You will greet patients, collect their basic health information, and assist doctors and nurses during medical exams. This job is great for someone who enjoys helping people, can work well with others, and wants to learn more about healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
Taking Care of Patients
- Patient Check-In: Welcome patients, ask them how they’re feeling, and gather basic health information, like their medical history and symptoms.
- Helping with Exams: Assist the doctor by preparing tools and checking things like blood pressure. You may also help give shots or take blood samples.
- Sharing Health Tips: Teach patients simple ways to stay healthy and answer any questions they may have.
Working with the Healthcare Team
- Preparing Exam Rooms: Clean and set up rooms with the needed tools for each patient.
- Giving Medicines: Under supervision, you will help give certain medicines and vaccines to patients.
- Checking Equipment: Make sure medical tools and machines are working correctly and are clean.
Office Duties
- Recording Patient Information: Carefully enter patients’ health details into the computer.
- Scheduling Appointments: Help patients schedule follow-up visits and manage their appointments.
- Helping with Billing: Assist with billing, insurance forms, and other paperwork to help the office run smoothly.
What You Need to Succeed
Required Skills
Here’s what we’re looking for in a Medical Assistant:
- Friendly and Patient-Focused: You should be kind, caring, and able to talk to patients in a gentle way.
- Basic Medical Knowledge: You should know common healthcare terms and have a basic understanding of healthcare practices.
- Organized and Detail-Oriented: Being organized will help you keep up with paperwork and keep things running smoothly.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are needed to enter information into our medical records system.
Preferred Skills
It would be great if you also have these skills:
- Speak Another Language: If you speak another language, like Spanish, it’s helpful for serving all members of the community.
- Experience in Community Health: Experience working in community health or mobile clinics would be helpful.
- Advanced Medical Skills: Knowledge of CPR or basic first aid is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Minimum Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. It’s preferred if you have completed a Medical Assistant training program.
- Experience: Experience working in a doctor’s office or health clinic is a plus, but new graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Certification: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) or CPR certification is a bonus, but not required.
