As an Infection Control Specialist, you will help stop the spread of sickness in hospitals, schools, and other places where people gather. You will teach people how to stay healthy and prevent infections from spreading. Your work will make the community safer and healthier.

Job Summary
As an Infection Control Specialist, you will help make sure that hospitals, schools, businesses, and public places are safe from infections. You will create rules and plans to stop the spread of germs. You will also help teach people how to stay healthy and avoid getting sick.
You will work closely with doctors, nurses, teachers, and other public health workers. Together, you will find ways to stop the spread of infections and help people stay safe.
Job Responsibilities
Here are the things you will do as an Infection Control Specialist:
- Create Safety Rules: You will help create rules to stop the spread of infections. These rules will help people know how to stay clean and healthy.
- Check for Infections: You will visit hospitals, schools, and other places to make sure people are following safety rules to prevent infections.
- Teach People: You will explain to people how to wash their hands, wear masks, and keep spaces clean to stop germs from spreading.
- Look for Infections: If there is a sickness or infection, you will help find out where it came from and how to stop it from spreading.
- Make Reports: You will write reports to share your findings with other health workers and leaders in the community.
- Help During Outbreaks: If there is an outbreak of a sickness like the flu or COVID-19, you will help stop it from spreading.
- Collect Data: You will keep track of how many people are getting sick and use that information to improve infection control.
What We’re Looking For
To be an Infection Control Specialist, you should have the following skills:
Required Skills
- Know About Germs: You should know how infections spread and how to stop them.
- Good at Talking to People: You need to explain things clearly to people, even if they don’t know much about germs or health.
- Pay Attention to Details: You should be able to notice small things that could be important in stopping infections.
- Problem Solver: You need to be able to think of ideas to solve problems, like when a new infection starts spreading.
- Team Player: You will work with many other people, so it’s important to be a good team member.
- Organized: You need to keep track of important information and be able to handle many tasks at once.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in Health or Safety: If you have worked in a health or safety job before, that is helpful.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC): If you have a special certificate in infection control, that’s great!
- Speak Other Languages: If you speak Spanish or other languages, it will help you communicate with more people.
- Leadership Skills: If you have experience leading a team or project, that’s a plus!
Education and Experience
- Education: You need to have finished high school. A college degree in health, nursing, or public health is helpful, but not required.
- Experience: We ask that you have at least 2 years of experience in a health-related job, but if you don’t have that, we’re happy to train you if you have a strong interest in infection control.
Location
This job is in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You will visit places like hospitals, schools, and other public areas to make sure they are following infection control rules. You may need to travel to different locations in the county.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a good salary based on your experience. The salary is $55,000 to $75,000 per year. Along with your salary, you will also get benefits like:
