Community Policing Innovator Full Time

Job Summary

The Community Policing Innovator works with both community members and police officers to make neighborhoods safer. You’ll help create programs, talk to residents, and make sure everyone feels heard and valued. This job needs someone who can listen, talk to people kindly, and come up with creative ways to solve problems. You will help people feel more connected to the police and make sure everyone feels safe and respected. This job will let you shape a better, safer community in San Diego.

Key Responsibilities

In this job, your main tasks will be:

Building Community Partnerships

• Meet with People: Talk to residents, businesses, and community groups to understand what they need.
• Organize Events: Plan events and meetings where the community can share concerns or learn about safety.
• Act as a Link: Be the connection between the community and the Sheriff’s department, helping people feel safe and understood.

Developing Safety Programs

• Create Programs: Make programs that teach people how to stay safe and work with the police.
• Teach Safety: Run classes or workshops to share important safety tips with community members.
• Adjust Programs as Needed: Listen to people’s feedback and make changes to improve the programs over time.

Promoting New Ideas

• Research Solutions: Look into new, creative ways to keep communities safe.
• Use Data: Use information to learn about what the community needs and create helpful programs.
• Support Modern Approaches: Help officers try new ways of working that are community-friendly.

Training Law Enforcement

• Teach Officers: Provide training for officers so they understand the community’s needs.
• Promote Peaceful Methods: Show officers ways to handle conflicts peacefully.
• Build Empathy: Help officers understand different cultures and perspectives to build trust with everyone.

Reporting and Analyzing Impact

• Gather Feedback: Talk to the community to see if they feel the programs are working.
• Use Data: Look at numbers to measure the success of each program and make changes as needed.
• Share Results: Regularly report back to leadership on how the programs are improving the community.

Education and Experience

Education

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Community Development, or something similar is preferred.

Experience

• 2 years of experience in social work, community service, or law enforcement is recommended.
• Experience in community programs or event planning is a plus.

Location

This job is based in the County of San Diego. You will visit different neighborhoods to help improve the relationship between the community and the police.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a good salary and benefits:

• Salary: $50,000 to $65,000 per year, based on experience.
