Job Summary
The Addiction Recovery Support Specialist works with people who are recovering from addiction. Your job is to support them, listen to their needs, and help them build a plan to stay clean and sober. Responsibilities
As an Addiction Recovery Support Specialist, you will have many important tasks to help people in their recovery journey. Here are the things you will do:
- Provide Emotional Support: You’ll talk to clients and listen to their worries, giving them encouragement to keep going.
- Help Create a Plan: You will help clients make a plan to stay sober. This plan will include goals and steps they need to take to improve their life.
- Connect People to Services: You will help clients find the right services like counseling, health care, and support groups to help them recover.
- Lead Group Sessions: You might help lead group meetings where people can talk to each other and support one another in their recovery.
- Track Progress: You’ll check in with clients to see how they are doing and make sure they are following their recovery plans.
- Respond to Crises: If someone is in a tough situation, you will be there to help them stay safe and get the support they need right away.
- Support Families: You’ll also help clients’ families understand how they can support their loved ones who are recovering.
- Keep Records: You’ll write down important information about each client, like their progress and the services they are using.
- Advocate for Clients: You will help clients get the support they need, whether it’s legal help, medical care, or financial assistance.
- Create a Positive Environment: You will work to create a welcoming and supportive space for people to feel safe and encouraged to recover.

Required Skills
- Good Communication: You should be able to talk to people clearly and listen carefully to what they have to say.

- Organized: You’ll need to keep track of lots of details, so being organized is important.

Preferred Skills
- Experience with Addiction: If you have worked with people who are recovering from addiction before, that’s a big plus!
- Knowledge of Recovery: It’s helpful if you know about different recovery methods, like therapy or support groups.
- First Aid/CPR: If you have first aid or CPR training, that’s helpful in case of emergencies.
- Bilingual: If you can speak another language, like Spanish, it’s a big help because it allows you to work with more people in the community.
Education and Experience
Education
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- It’s good to have some college courses in social work, counseling, psychology, or something similar, but it’s not required.
- If you have a degree in a related field, like psychology or social work, that’s a plus!
Experience
- It’s helpful if you have worked in a job where you helped people, especially in a setting that deals with addiction.
- If you don’t have much experience yet, don’t worry! We are open to training people who are new to this type of work.
