Job Summary
The Public Health Program Director is in charge of making sure health programs in the community are well planned and successful. These programs aim to help people stay healthy and prevent diseases. What You Will Do
As the Public Health Program Director, here are some of the things you will be responsible for:
- Lead Health Programs:
- You will plan and run health programs that help the community.
- Make sure these programs work well and reach their goals.
- Work with Community Groups:
- You will work with local health experts, government groups, and other organizations to make sure the programs are successful.
- Keep in touch with these groups and help them work together.
- Look at Program Results:
- You will check how well the programs are working by looking at health data.
- Use the data to improve the programs and make them even better.
- Create Reports:
- Write reports that show how well the programs are doing.
- Share these reports with community leaders and other important people.
- Manage the Program Budget:
- Make sure the programs have enough money to run.
- Find ways to get extra funding or support if needed.
- Teach and Educate:
- Help people in the community learn about important health topics.
- Share information and teach people how to stay healthy.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who has these skills and qualities:
Required Skills:
- Leadership: You will lead health programs, so you need to be a good leader and help others do their best.
- Good Communication: You should be able to talk to different people, like government officials, doctors, and community members. You also need to write clear reports and explain ideas easily.
- Problem-Solving: You will need to find solutions to problems that come up in the programs.
- Teamwork: You will work with many different people, so being a good team player is important.
- Understanding of Public Health: It’s important to know about health issues like disease prevention and how to help people stay healthy.
Preferred Skills:
- Community Experience: If you have worked with local communities before, that’s a plus!
- Grant Writing: If you can help find money for programs by writing grant applications, that would be great.
- Technology Skills: It helps if you know how to use computers and software to track health data and manage programs.
- Bilingual: If you speak more than one language (especially Spanish), that will help you work with a wider group of people.
Education and Experience
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare, or a related field is required.
- A Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) is preferred, but not required.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience working in public health or a similar job is needed.
- You should have at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role, where you managed or directed a program.
