Public Health Services is looking for a Public Health Advocacy Manager. This person will help make sure that people in Harris County, Houston, Texas, are aware of important health issues. Job Summary
The Public Health Advocacy Manager helps to change laws and make new rules that can improve the health of everyone in our community. You will work with local leaders, schools, hospitals, and businesses to make sure everyone understands how to stay healthy. You will also help organize events and activities that teach people how to live better and healthier lives.
Responsibilities
As a Public Health Advocacy Manager, here are some of the things you will do:
1. Advocate for Health Changes
- You will talk to local government leaders and help them understand why changes in health rules are important.
- You will help make sure people follow new health rules that can make the community healthier.
2. Teach the Community
- You will organize fun events where people can learn more about staying healthy.
- You will visit schools, businesses, and other places to teach people about health.
- You will give speeches and talk to groups to explain health issues in simple ways.
3. Work with Other Groups
- You will team up with local organizations and healthcare workers to help make changes.
- You will work with community groups to make sure people have the information they need to be healthy.
4. Plan Health Campaigns
- You will help plan big campaigns that teach everyone about healthy habits.
- You will create flyers and other fun materials to share health messages.
5. Help Raise Money for Health Programs
- You will help find money to support public health programs.
- You will talk to people who might want to donate or sponsor health events.
Qualifications
We need someone who loves working with people and is excited about helping others stay healthy. These are the skills you need:
Required Skills
- Good Communication: You need to be able to explain things clearly, whether in writing or when talking to people.
- Leadership: You should be able to help lead projects and work with others to get things done.
- Problem Solving: You need to be able to figure out how to make things better when challenges come up.
- Organized: You need to be able to keep track of many tasks and get them done on time.
Preferred Skills
- Public Speaking: It helps if you feel comfortable talking in front of big groups of people.
- Research: If you know how to gather and use information, that will help you in this job.
- Social Media: Knowing how to use social media to share health messages is a bonus.
- Fundraising: If you know how to raise money for important causes, that’s helpful.
Education and Experience
Education:
- You need to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree in public health or a similar subject is helpful, but not required.
Experience:
- It’s good to have some experience working with communities, helping with health programs, or organizing events. But if you’re a quick learner and passionate about helping others, we encourage you to apply!
