Job Summary:
As a Health Policy Analyst, your main job will be to look at health information, research, and ideas to help create better rules and plans for public health. You’ll find ways to make sure everyone has access to good healthcare, that people stay healthy, and that we can fix problems in the healthcare system.
You will also study health problems in Harris County and figure out how to solve them. Your work will help the government and other groups make smart decisions that keep everyone healthier. You will work with other experts to improve health policies and share your ideas with people in charge.
Responsibilities:
Here’s what you’ll do as a Health Policy Analyst:
- Do Research: Look at health information to learn about common health problems in the community.
- Analyze Health Data: Study numbers and facts to understand how well the current health rules are working.
- Help Make New Policies: Suggest new rules that can make people healthier and fix problems in healthcare.
- Work with Others: Team up with doctors, government officials, and others to find solutions to health problems.
- Write Reports: Write simple reports to explain what you’ve learned, and tell others how to fix health problems.
- Advocate for Change: Tell people why it’s important to make better health rules and policies.
- Watch for New Laws: Pay attention to new laws and rules about health to make sure everything is up-to-date.
- Talk to the Public: Ask people in the community what they think about health issues to understand what they need.
Qualifications:
We are looking for someone with these skills:
Required Skills:
- Research Skills: You should be good at looking for information and learning new things.
- Problem-Solving: You need to be able to think of ways to fix health problems.
- Clear Communication: You must be able to explain things clearly in writing and when talking to people.
- Attention to Detail: It’s important to pay close attention to details when looking at data or making reports.
- Teamwork: You should be able to work with others to solve problems.
- Basic Math Skills: Being able to understand simple numbers and data will help you in this job.
- Public Health Knowledge: It’s helpful to know about health problems like diseases, healthcare, and health policies.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in Health Policy: If you’ve worked with health policies or rules before, that’s a plus!
- Project Management: It’s good if you can handle more than one task at a time and finish your work on time.
- Speaking Other Languages: If you can speak Spanish or another language, it will help you talk to more people in the community.
Education and Experience:
- Education: You need at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Political Science, Sociology, or a similar field. A Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) is a plus.
- Experience: It’s great if you have at least 2 years of experience working with health research, public health, or something similar. If you’ve worked with the government or in healthcare before, that’s even better!
Location: Harris County, Houston, Texas
