Job Summary
As a Health Policy Research Analyst, you will be responsible for studying and analyzing health policies. You will look at the data (numbers and information) to see if current health policies are working well or if changes are needed. You will help write reports to share your findings and give suggestions on how to improve health programs and policies.
This job is great for someone who likes to research, solve problems, and share ideas to improve the health and well-being of the community.
Responsibilities
Your main job duties as a Health Policy Research Analyst will include:
1. Research and Collect Information
- You will gather and study data on health programs and policies.
- You will look at numbers and information to find out what is working and what is not.
- You will use computers and special programs to analyze and understand the data.
2. Analyze Health Policies
- You will check if the current health policies are helping people and making a difference.
- If something is not working well, you will suggest new ideas or changes to improve the policies.
- You will work with other experts to understand health problems in the community.
3. Write Reports and Present Findings
- You will write reports to share your findings with others, such as policymakers and government officials.
- You will create presentations to explain your research to people who make important decisions.
- Your reports and presentations will help others understand how to make health programs better.
4. Work with a Team
- You will work with people from different departments like public health professionals, doctors, and government workers.
- You will help create new ideas for improving public health policies.
- You will learn from others and share your own ideas.
5. Keep Track of Health Policies
- You will help track how well health policies are working and if they need changes.
- You will keep an eye on how programs are going and make suggestions for improvements.
- You will help write applications for funding to support health programs.
6. Provide Advice on Policy
- You will suggest ways to improve public health policies based on your research.
- You will attend meetings with other experts to discuss health issues and solutions.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Research Skills: You should be good at finding information, looking at data, and understanding what it means.
- Communication Skills: You must be able to write clearly and talk to people about your findings.
- Attention to Detail: You need to be careful and make sure your work is accurate.
- Problem-Solving: You should be able to think of good ideas to improve health policies.
- Computer Skills: You will use special programs to analyze data, so being comfortable with computers is important.
- Organization Skills: You will need to stay organized to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Teamwork: You should enjoy working with others to solve problems and come up with ideas.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Health: It helps to know about health issues and policies, but this is not a must.
- Experience with Health Programs: If you have worked in health or healthcare before, that is a plus.
- Grant Writing: If you know how to write grant applications to get money for programs, that is a bonus.
- Data Tools: If you know how to use programs like Excel, that would be helpful.
- Bilingual: If you speak another language, like Spanish, that would be a great advantage!
Education and Experience
Required Education
- You need a Bachelor’s degree in a field like Public Health, Health Policy, Statistics, or something similar.
Required Experience
- You need at least 2 years of experience working in health policy or research, or in a related job.
Preferred Education
- A Master’s degree in Public Health or Health Policy is a plus, but not required.
Preferred Experience
- If you have more than 2 years of experience, that will be great, but we are also open to people with less experience who are willing to learn!
Location
This job is located in San Diego County, California. You will be working in an office setting, but there might be chances to work from home some of the time.
Salary and Benefits
Salary
The salary for this job will depend on your experience and education. On average, the salary is between $60,000 and $85,000 per year.
