Job Summary
As a Public Health Researcher, you will help us study different health problems in our community. You will collect information, study it, and help others understand how to solve health issues. Responsibilities
Here are the main things you will do as a Public Health Researcher:
- Collect Information: You will gather health data by looking at surveys, medical records, and other health information. This helps us understand what health problems people are facing.
- Analyze the Data: You will look at all the information you collect, find patterns, and figure out what it means for people’s health. For example, you might discover that many people are getting sick from the same cause, like pollution.
- Write Reports: After analyzing the data, you will write reports explaining what you found. You will share your findings with other people who make decisions about public health, like government workers or doctors.
- Work with Other Experts: You will work closely with other health experts to discuss the research and help come up with solutions to improve people’s health.
- Recommend Solutions: Based on your research, you will suggest ways to solve health problems. For example, if many people are getting sick from pollution, you might suggest ways to clean the air or protect people from harmful chemicals.
- Talk to the Community: Sometimes, you will meet with people in the community to ask questions and learn about their health concerns. This helps you make sure your research is focused on what people need.
- Stay Updated: Public health is always changing, so you’ll keep learning about new diseases, problems, and ways to improve health.
Required Skills
To be a Public Health Researcher, you will need the following skills:
- Good at Finding Patterns: You need to be able to look at lots of information and find patterns. For example, you might look at data from different years to see if a certain disease is getting worse.
- Pay Attention to Details: You must be careful when collecting and looking at data to make sure everything is correct.
- Good at Explaining: You need to be able to explain your research clearly so that other people can understand it. Sometimes, you will explain your work to people who don’t know a lot about health, so it’s important to be clear.
- Problem-Solving: Public health researchers need to come up with solutions to big problems. Your job will involve thinking about ways to improve people’s health and stop diseases from spreading.
- Tech Skills: You should be able to use computers and special programs to help you organize and look at data.
- Teamwork: Even though you will do a lot of your work by yourself, you will also need to work well with others. Public health experts work together to help the community.

Education and Experience
To be a Public Health Researcher, you need:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree (this is like finishing college) in public health, health science, or a related subject. A Master’s degree (a higher degree) is even better, but not required.
- Experience: It helps if you have at least 2 years of experience doing work that involves research or working in health. This could be from a job or school.
- Extra Training: If you have special training in research methods or health studies, that’s a plus!
Location
This job is based in Harris County, Houston, Texas. Houston is a big, exciting city with lots of people and lots of opportunities to make a difference in health. You will be helping people right in your own community!
Salary and Benefits
At Public Health Services, we want to make sure our team is well taken care of. The salary for this job is between $50,000 and $70,000 per year, depending on your experience.
